APPLICATION OF THE COMPUTER GRAPHICS IN A SURGICAL REATMENT OF ENOPHTHALMOS

Abstract
|
|
|
The cause of enophthalmos, suchas escape of orbital fat, retention of the globe in a recessed position by entrapment of surrounding tissue in the fracture site, fat necrosis, cicatrical contraction of the retrobulba tissues and enlargement of the orbital cavity 11)are so numerous that surgeons cannot evaluate the precise causes of enophthalmos by conventional x-ray studies.
The post-traumatic enophthalmoses are very difficult clinical subjects which most reconstructive surgeons cannot correct satisfactorily.
By means of the computer graphics & computerized tomogram we developed, following results were obtained in the treated enophthalmos cases.
1) Before operation we can know the exact amount of expected bone graft.
2) The exact location where the bone graft is necessary in the orbit can be easily identified.
3) We obtained another important evidences of less resorption of autogenous calvarial bone graft compared to the conventional cancellous bone graft.
Conclusively we are convinced that the computer graphics will be one of the useful complementary methods in the corrective surgery of enophthalmos.
